The Weaving Word

Weaving together the threads that make up my passion for the written word…as an author, editor, and follower of The Word.

Great I Am

“Great I Am” by Phillips, Craig and Dean came on the radio yesterday when I was in the car, and I had one of those goosebump moments where the Spirit just came right through and I almost had to pull over.  Does this ever happen to other people, or is it just me?

Two things struck me.  First, the difference between what I want as a child of God vs. what I actually allow in my life.  Second, this song reminded me of just who God is and why He is worthy of everything I am, and eveything I have.

Looking around this world, it is so easy to give in to despair.  To see how messed up things are…how cruel, corrupt, dishonest, and depraved humanity can be at its worst.  Some days it looks like Satan is in charge, but that’s exactly what he wants us to think–that is one of his biggest lies.  He can mess with our minds, our relationships, and our emotions; he can make us second guess our decisions, and talk us into things we know our wrong.  But only to the extent that we allow it.  Satan is not really in charge.  God IS.  And some days we just need to step back from the chaos and hold onto that.

Only God is Holy, Almighty, Worthy…the Great I AM.  No part of creation, no demon, and certainly not Satan, can stand before His powerful presence. The mention of His name alone is enough to make them flee in terror…and enough to make us lift our faces and raise our hands to the heavens in complete gratitude.  To know that this is the God who loves us unconditionally, and wants a close, personal relationship with us, is extremely humbling.

If you don’t know the song, the lyrics are below.  I’ve also linked to the recording of it on YouTube.  Listen to it at some point today, whether you’ve heard it before or not, and be grateful for the holiness of our awesome God!

“Great I Am”

I want to be close, close to Your side
So Heaven is real and death is a lie
I want to hear voices of angels above
Singing as one

Hallelujah, holy, holy
God Almighty, the great I AM
Who is worthy, none beside Thee
God Almighty, the great I AM

I want to be near, near to Your heart
Loving the world and hating the dark
I want to see dry bones living again
Singing as one

The great I AM

The mountains shake before You
the demons run and flee
At the mention of the name King of Majesty
There is no power in hell
Or any who can stand
Before the power and the presence of the great I AM

The great I AM the great I AM yeah

[Chorus x2]

The great I AM
The great I AM
The great I AM
